Proverbs 17:24 (NLT)
Sensible people keep their eyes glued on wisdom, but a fool’s eyes wander to the ends of the earth.
Much of what we do in life on a daily basis is run of the mill, routine, mundane things that we have to do in order to survive. We have to work, we have to eat, we have to learn, we have to exercise, we have to clean up, we have to take care of our personal hygiene. But in the grand scheme of things, we do a lot of things that don’t really matter in the long term.
As believers, God wants us to set goals and to achieve our dreams. In order to achieve anything in God’s kingdom or otherwise, we must seek wisdom and rely on our faith to reach the goals we set. We tend to focus on the things that really matter. People really matter to God. And as followers of God, people should matter very much to us as well. Once you discover what matter most, you will be able to set goals that help fulfill your purpose.
God gives everyone talent and ability in different measures and occupations. You don’t have to have the same goals as anyone else or be just like anyone else to exercise faith and achieve big things in God’s world. You exercise faith by setting goals based upon the purpose that has been divinely given to you and then acting on that faith to make those goals a reality. Goals should be specific and practical. They should also be something about which you are passionate and will pursue with your whole heart.
When God puts something in your heart to do, it may seem too big for you and you may feel incapable of doing it. But you must remember that God does not call those who are the best qualified; he qualifies those who he calls. When he calls you, he gives you everything you need to accomplish the goal. Following God’s plan may stretch you but if you just follow it, it will take you to places you may not have otherwise reached.
For the believer, goals are empowering. They give us sustenance and stability. When everything else around you is crashing down and not working the way it should, goals will bring you back to center. When the people around you are panicking and scattered, having clearly defined and trackable goals will help you stay on track. God can do anything that you believe he can do. When you set goals in faith and believe what the end result will be, God then has permission to take over and help you realize your dreams.
“If you want to reach a goal, you must “see the reaching” in your own mind before you actually arrive at your goal.”
