6 Real Ways We Fail at Progress (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 273)

6-real-ways-we-fail-at-progress

“Arriving at one point is the starting point to another.”
— John Dewey

Don’t let life discourage you. It will disappoint you at times, but don’t let it get it down. It has been said that every single person who is where they are right now had to begin where they were at some point in the not too distant past. The thing about progress is that it is always moving you further away from where you were and closer to where you want to people. If you allow yourself to get discouraged, you will begin to think motion alone is progress. Sitting and throwing your hands up is motion but it doesn’t get you any closer to your goal. Even if you fall down flat on your face, if you get back up, you’re still moving forward. The point is to get down the right path and keep moving down the right path and eventually, over time, you’ll make progress. Continue reading

Trust that Never Fails (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 273)

trust-that-never-fails

Psalm 20:7 (NLT)
Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.

All people trust someone or something. Sometimes, we put our trust in the wrong people or the wrong things which eventually leads to disappointment. The direction of our lives can also be altered by where and in whom we choose to put our trust. And if we trust no one or in nothing we open ourselves up to a new level of stress and anxious that if it goes unchecked can push us over the edge. Continue reading

6 Clear Ways We Fail at Progress (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 272)

6-clear-ways-we-fail-at-progress

“Progress. Just make progress. It’s okay to have setbacks and the need for do-overs. It’s okay to draw a line in the sand and start over again — and again. Just make sure you’re moving the line forward. Move forward. Take baby steps… Then change will come. And it will be good.”
— Lysa TerKeurst

It is easy for us to allow delusions and untruths to take root and grow in the personal gardens of our lives. When left unchecked, a garden doesn’t grow as it should. It becomes wild, weeds outrun the garden’s potential, and ultimately the garden dies. Likewise, in life, when we allow lies to go unchallenged, they control our expectations and the action or lack thereof that we take on our potential. Take your time if you must, but don’t allow discouragement and negativity to knock you off the path of progress. Every step may not be as fruitful as you would like, but when you get to your destination, you will look back and find that very good step outweighed every bad one. Some people quit because progress is slow, never once stopping to consider that slow progress is still progress. Continue reading

Keeping The Real (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 272)

keeping-the-real

Psalm 119:9 (NLT)
How can a young person stay pure? By obeying your word.

We live in a world that lacks authenticity. We’re obsessed with image, status, reputation, and appearance. It’s difficult to be real when the environment we are in, the people we are around, and even ourselves are faking it to impress others. Too many of us lack character and integrity. We don’t honor our word. We skim and skate to do just enough to get by. Continue reading

6 Other Ways We Fail at Progress (365 Days of Spirited Living – DAY 271)

6-other-ways-we-fail-at-progress

“And a step backward, after making a wrong turn, is a step in the right direction.”
— Kurt Vonnegut

Progress means to always be getting closer to the place you want to be. You may take a wrong turn, make mistakes, and base your assumptions off of misunderstandings. It is at this point that you stop to reconsider the path you are on. Sometimes, progress means not moving for a while in order to gain clarity of perspective and vision. But then you must make a move in some direction — preferably, the right one. The person who is not just moving but moving rightly is the one making true progress. Continue reading

Why We Should Be Compassionate (365 Days of Daring Faith — DAY 271)

why-we-should-be-compassionate

Luke 6:36 (NLT)
You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Jesus is the epitome of compassion and mercy. Each day we are alive is the perfect example of mercy being made evident in our lives. Sometimes, we won’t feel like being merciful or compassionate to other people. I know there are times in my own life where I allow frustration and disappointment to take over instead of showing mercy and extending compassion. It is one of the most difficult, but right decisions we can ever make. Continue reading
